Contemporary.Institute is an online project that investigates endeavors in the contemporary art field that are creating agency for artists and art workers. It will focus on technological and pedagogical innovations, activist interventions, and political organizing in the economy of contemporary art production. It will make the case for practices that risk abandoning conventional artistic strategies to creatively experiment with the economic, legal, and techno-institutional structures that frame the art field and beyond.

João Enxuto and Erica Love collaborate on projects about art institutions, labor conditions, and value systems shaped by recent technologies. They have given talks, written essays, and exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, Whitney Museum of Art, the New Museum, Anthology Film Archives, Walker Art Center, Louisiana Museum in Denmark, ArtCenter/South Florida, and the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City. Enxuto and Love’s writing has appeared in Art in America, Mousse, Wired Magazine, and X-TRA. They currently teach at the School of Visual Arts, City College’s Digital Interdisciplinary Arts Practice (DIAP) MFA program, and Maumaus in Lisbon, Portugal.
