Lisa Hsiao Chen will write a series of articles to examine ephemerality and belonging(s) in the work of artist Martin Wong. Taking a prismatic approach, she will consider objects from Wong’s collection of curios, Charlie Ahearn’s documentary profile of him, and the succulents he painted in the last years of his life.
Lisa Hsiao Chen is the author of a novel inspired by the work of the artist Tehching Hsieh, Activities of Daily Living (W. W. Norton, 2022), and a volume of poetry, Mouth (Kaya Press, 2007). Her writing has appeared in The Baffler, The Brooklyn Rail, and The Paris Review.
