Ratik Asokan will write about Indian documentary photographers whose work challenges, contradicts, or opposes the hegemonic notion of a Hindu nation. By casting a light on the voices of marginalized communities in India, or those who have been otherwise discriminated against by the state—among them, Kashmiris, Muslims, Adivasis, Dalits, and members of the “northeast”—Asokan hopes to challenge the hegemony of the right-wing Hindutva narrative and the liberal, nationalist narrative of a “united India.”

Ratik Asokan is a writer. Originally from Mumbai, India, he is currently based in New York, where he works as an associate editor at The Baffler and a contributing editor at Triple Canopy.
