Miriam Felton-Dansky’s article “Vetting Regimes: The US Politics of Artist Visas from the Berlin Wall to the Muslim Ban” will trace the origins of the visa classifications through which performers enter the US, examining how American immigration systems continue to determine what may and may not appear onstage.

Miriam Felton-Dansky is associate professor of Theater and Performance at Bard College and director of its Theater and Performance Program. Formerly a theater critic for The Village Voice, she is the author of Viral Performance: Contagious Theaters from Modernism to the Digital Age (Northwestern University Press, 2018).
